Sticky Candied Pecans with Brown Sugar Glaze

A few months ago my husband grabbed a small container of candied pecans from the grocery bakery. He brought them home and they disappeared within minutes. Since then he’s picked them up several times and it quickly turned into a family race to see who can finish them first. Even our three- and six-year-old are serious contenders.

After watching how much we were spending, he dared me to make a homemade version. I accepted and developed what I now call Sticky Candied Pecans.

What we liked about the store-bought version was the crunch and sweet glaze. What we didn’t like was the price, the tiny package size (we were going through them fast), and the long ingredient list full of unfamiliar additives. This recipe keeps things simple: just four wholesome ingredients. No white sugar, no artificial sweeteners—just real ingredients you can feel good about serving to your family.

When baked, the honey and butter meld with cinnamon to create a deep, toasty sweetness that clings to every pecan half. The result is delectably sweet, satisfyingly crunchy, and slightly sticky while warm—perfect for snacking, gifting, or topping salads and ice cream.

Yes, they’re sticky. And yes, you will want to eat them by the handful.

These pecans are more economical than most store-bought versions and you end up with a larger batch—so everyone wins. Full disclosure: I’m not usually a big nut person, but I couldn’t stop eating these. Resisting long enough to take photos was a real challenge.

Enjoy them straight from the pan, sprinkle them over salads or ice cream, or package a batch as a thoughtful homemade gift. If you want to add them to a salad, they pair beautifully with berry-based dressings like blueberry or strawberry-basil dressings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pecan halves
  • 4 tablespoons ghee (regular butter works great)
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Optional: additional 2 tablespoons honey for drizzling after baking.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the ghee (or butter) and honey in a small saucepan over low to medium-low heat. Warm until melted and smooth.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon and mix until well combined, then remove the pan from heat.
  4. Place the pecan halves in a large bowl. Pour the warm syrup over the pecans and stir until every nut is evenly coated. Mixing in a bowl helps ensure full coverage and prevents syrup waste.
  5. Spread the coated pecans in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove and stir the pecans. If you prefer a sweeter finish, drizzle an extra tablespoon or two of honey over them while hot.
  7. Allow the pecans to cool on the baking sheet. They will be sticky when warm and firm up as they cool.
  8. Serve by the handful, sprinkle over salads or desserts, or package as a homemade treat. Try not to eat the entire batch at once—though it’s tempting!
